11 days – From Kilimanjaro’s forests to Zanzibar
Overview
A well-balanced, budget-friendly itinerary that combines trekking, safari and beach. You will visit two great parks in northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park and the world famous Ngorongoro Crater. You will discover "differently" the landscapes of northern Tanzania during your treks at the foot of Mounts Kilimanjaro and Meru, and you will also have the opportunity to witness Tanzanian daily life during your visit to Mto wa Mbu and your meeting with the Chaggas. Finally, you end in style with a few days of relaxation on the magical island of Zanzibar.
Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro
You are picked up by our driver guide at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your hotel in Moshi.
Overnight Weru Weru river lodge on full board basis.
Day 2: Trekking in Kilimanjaro's forest
During this day, you will hike (between 3 and 4 hours) to discover the natural beauty of the forests and rivers on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, including a stop at the Materuni waterfalls.
You will also discover the Chaggas tribe through their traditional houses, their farming techniques and cattle breeding. The Chaggas will also take you on a tour of the caves in which they hid during the inter-tribal wars with the Maasai.

Day 3: Walking safari in Arusha National Park
After breakfast you are picked up at your hotel and driven to the Momela Gate in Arusha National Park. A few formalities with the park authorities are taken care of and you start your trekking tour through the bush of Arusha National Park, companied by armed range. In this rather open vegetation you are likely to meet giraffes, buffalos, Zebras, warthogs, colubus monkey and maybe even elephants freely roaming in their natural habitat. Round trip transportation plus picnic lunch included. Walking safari and game en-route take 7 hours.

Day 4: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast your driver guide picks you up at the hotel and you head to Tarangire National Park. You spend the afternoon on a game drive. You encounter antelopes and elephants, but are equally stunned by the gigantic baobab trees.
Overnight you stay at Osupuko Lodge on full board basis.
Day 5: Tarangire National Park
A good part of the day will be devoted to a game drive in Tarangire National Park. You enjoy the beautiful scenery and observe animals that roam through the bush, like zebras, wildebeests and antelopes. At the same time you marvel at Tarangire National Park’s incredible variety of birds. In the afternoon you drive to Karatu.

Day 6: Safari in Ngorongoro crater
In the morning, you drive to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. You enjoy the abundance and variety of wildlife in the crater – among them all Big Five. Expect to see zebras and wildebeests, meet some lions and with some luck glimpse at the rare rhino.

Day 7: From Mto wa Mbu to Zanzibar
Day devoted to the discovery of the village of Mto wa Mbu which, despite its small size and isolated location, is home to a population from many different tribes. The activities planned in this program are:
- Village walks: Get an inside look at the homes and exquisite craft of Mto wa Mbu’s many tribes. Visitors will get a chance to meet locals and learn about banana beer, Makonde woodcarvings, and the tribal painting techniques; the village provides a great introduction to everyday life in Africa.
- Biking to Lake Manyara: Bike to the coast of one of Africa’s most majestic lake and get an amazing opportunity to view wildlife like zebras, giraffes, hippos and buffaloes at close range in this corridor of migration between the national parks.
- Farm tour: See the innovative farming practices of Mto wa Mbu villagers and learn about the irrigation system that sustains local crops, including the 32 varieties of bananas.
- Lunch at Mama’s: Enjoy a delicious, home-cooked meal in a local Mom’s home. Over lunch, the guide will provide a history of the region and the many local tribes.
In the afternoon you driver to Arusha – Kilimanjaro International Airport in time to catch up you flight to Zanzibar. At Zanzibar airport, you are picked up by our local correspondent and transferred to your hotel.

Days 8 to 10: Relaxing in Zanzibar
You have the days to yourself to relax on the wonderful beaches of Zanzibar. During your stay on Zanzibar you can do the following activities (not included in the cost of your trip):
- Stone Town
- Spice tour
- Jozani Forest
- Diving, snorkeling…
Overnight at Kendwa Rock Hotel on bed and breakfast basis.
Day 11: Departure day
In the morning, you can take a dip in the ocean again before packing.
In time for your flight you drive to Zanzibar Airport to catch up your return flight.
