Safaris

In its original meaning in Swahili, the primary language of East Africa, ‘safari’ simply means ‘journey’. However, today, ‘safari’ is synonymous with a trip through Africa’s stunning natural habitats with the aim to discover wildlife. There is no better place for safaris than Tanzania!

Under the auspices of the national government, Tanzania protects over 25% of its territory through a highly developed system of national parks and natural reserves. It sports some of the most famous nature reserves not only of Africa but in the entire world: the legendary great plains of the Serengeti and the famous Ngorongoro Crater. In all of Tanzania’s natural reserves you find a vast abundance of animals beyond the ‘big five’ (elephants, buffalos, lions, rhinos and leopards), including giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs, hippos, various kinds of antelopes, a great variety of bird species and many more.

A safari is a great way to experience Tanzania’s abundant nature. There is a multitude of different national parks and natural reserves for you to visit and each one of them allows you to see Tanzania’s wildlife in their different natural habitats. In the national parks animals will not shy away from you and you have the possibility to get within a few meters of an elephant or a lion. In any case, a safari guarantees you an unforgettable experience.

  • Design your own safari: If you have a specific idea about what you want to experience most, or simply wish to pick and choose from the various safari elements we offer, do not hesitate to contact us. We will tailor a special safari for you to accommodate your personal preferences.
  •

    • Choose from our proposed safaris: Based on the long-standing experience of our guides, Soaring Flamingo has designed an attractive portfolio of proposed safari itineraries. Each of the proposals has a different focus and programme duration but all of them have one thing in common: they take you to the most magnificent places and are designed that you have a most memorable experience.

    • Sign-up for an organized safari: If you prefer to leave all the organization to us and join a small group of other people, Soaring Flamingo offers a range of organized safari tours to the national parks in Tanzania’s Northern Circuit.

On all safaris organized by Soaring Flamingo you will be guided by our experienced, local driver guides. They will make sure that you will have an unforgettable experience by bringing you to the most attractive places, pointing out animals that you would not have detected on your own, and providing you with comprehensive information on the animals, the ecosystems, the country and its people.

To guarantee your satisfaction Soaring Flamingo uses purpose built Land Cruisers on its safaris. These vehicles ensure your comfort and provide a good view on the game drives, in particular thanks to their big roof hatches.

If you desire to experience Tanzania’s incredible nature even closer we highly recommend to complement your safari by a trekking tour or request a short trekking during your safari.

    Driving safari or trekking?

A driving safari is an exciting way to get a very broad impression of Africa and its nature. You can access many interesting places in a comparatively short time and get a good view of the wildlife. Most national parks in Tanzania can only be accessed by car.

Even though animals may approach the vehicles very closely, the car will always be a barrier in between you and the natural environment surrounding you. If you prefer to get an even more intimate impression of the stunning nature in Northern Tanzania, a trekking tour could be the best option for you. You will be exposed to the natural beauty with all your senses: you feel the heat of the sun, you smell the grass on which you walk, you see the herds of zebras crossing your path, you hear the wind rushing through the bushes. You can truly feel the nature surrounding you.

While the possibilities for trekking tours within the boundaries of Tanzania’s national parks are very limited, there are many options to arrange short or multi-day trekking tours in the conservation areas immediately adjacent to the national park boundaries. These tours will bring you to places that could not be reached by car and where only few tourists will be found. The disadvantage of a trekking tour is, however, that you cannot cover the same ground as on a driving safari. As a consequence, you will see fewer different places and also less wildlife.

Due to the complementary characteristics of driving safaris and trekking, we strongly recommend that you opt for a tour program which includes elements of both. On the driving safari, you can satisfy your desire to see a large variety of African nature and most of all the wildlife. On the trekking tour you can then deepen your impressions and take in nature in its full extent.
